"We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns."

Any brand that is aimed towards children generally has a brand character. Brand characters are created to help people relate to brands. I don't think that it always works but I think that the Jolly Green Giant is a good way to go. Although vegetables are not aimed towards children, the JGG helps parents to get their children to eat them becuase of him. Lets think of a brand that could use a brand character. I think... J-e-l-l-o. How about a cartoon version of Bill Cosby? Jello and Kool-aid are similar... how about a big bowl of jello that kicks a hole through your wall and doesn't wear pants? (thanks dane) Although jello has changed their positioning a little and are aiming towards mothers because of their low fat jello.. I still think that jello appeals to children and they could benefit from branding the same product to two different target markets with two different strategies.       Like they say though, consider letting sleeping brands lie....

I guess that considering I am not a child I now realize why I never really related to commercials that used brand characters. I think that the main reason was also because I don't like when cartoons and reality collide together. I also think that I am not a huge fan of brand characters because although it sometimes works, I think its a cheesy way of branding your brand. I just think that if in the long run it came down to it, I would def. vote against using a brand character.

I mean these are just my opinions about brand characters and I'm sure that a lot people disagree with me, especially  employees from Leo Burnett who made lots of money from JGG but I'm sure at the same time people agree with me because I cannot be the only person who thinks so logically. Ha ha!

In the film Full Metal Jacket Crazy Earl says, "We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns."
